Mother And Son Share the Impact of the I’m Determined Project

In this podcast Jonathan Brooks, a youth leader for the I’m Determined Project, and his mother, Tiffany Burton, highlight how the life skills learned through this project have helped them to make positive changes in their lives –  both academically and personally.   Jonathan shares how his involvement with I’m Determined has improved his self-esteem. Tiffany provides her perspective as a parent involved with the project, and reveals how it has impacted her younger son as well.

The Virginia Department of Education’s I’m Determined project, in conjunction with the Partnership for People with
imdeterminedDisabilities, invites applications for sponsorship to the 11th Annual I’m Determined Youth and Parent Summit at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  Youth with disabilities from across the Commonwealth will meet to identify ways to become better advocates and lead more self-determined lives. The selected individuals and a parent/guardian will receive paid registration, dormitory accommodations, travel expenses and meals for the three-day event. A concurrent Parent Summit for the selected participant’s parent/guardian will be held at the university. Application deadline March 9, 2017.  Read more
